The Museum
The Numismatic Museum Ruse is the first registered private museum in
Bulgaria. It is located in the town of Ruse on the Danube River. The
museum owns some of the most comprehensive and scientifically important
collections of coins, struck in the antique towns of Thrace as well as
archeological artifacts. One of the collections, that of the coinage of
the Scythian kings, for example, includes over 600 coins and provides a
representative overview of all types and denominations struck by the
Scythians in Dobrudja.
The collections of the museum have been formed over many
years by the Bobokov brothers, who established a Foundation in their
name with the purpose to work towards the conservation and exhibiting
their of collections into a Numismatic Museum.
One of the most beautiful historical buildings in Ruse
was purchased by the Foundation to serve as the new museum – that of the
former music school. This is one of the newest museums in Europe of
this kind and it has the ambition to function as a European numismatic
scientific research center. It will gather, preserve, explore, exhibit
and educate the public in the fields of numismatics and medals.
The renovation plans include a storage area,
conservation laboratory, exhibition halls, education center for kids,
virtual museum, library, coffee shop, gift shop and a large main hall,
which will house different events.
NMR is the most mobile museum in Bulgaria. It has
organized over 35 exhibitions in different cities in Bulgaria and three
cities overseas, using highly technological mobile display cases it has
developed for that purpose.
